Jason Phelps & Cassi Mayer: Fueling Connection Through Power Sports Expo
Some people are part of the off-road world because they ride. Some because they build. Some because they bring people together.
Jason Phelps and Cassi Mayer, founders of Power Sports Expo, have found a way to do all three.
Based in Kansas City, Kansas, Jason and Cassi have created something that goes far beyond a single event. Power Sports Expo is a place where the community and the industry collide — where riders, racers, vendors, brands, and fans all come together for one adrenaline-filled weekend built around connection, excitement, and a shared love for the off-road lifestyle.
At its core, Power Sports Expo offers the mudding and off-road community exactly what so many riders are looking for: a destination experience. One that combines a vendor expo featuring top brands and experts in powersports, live concerts, racing for cold hard cash, and the kind of energy that only happens when people who love this lifestyle come together in one place.
What makes Jason and Cassi’s vision stand out is that they do not box the off-road world into just one lane. They understand that this community is made up of many different styles of riding, many different machines, and many different kinds of people. From mud to rock, trail to dune, Power Sports Expo embraces every part of it.
And that is exactly what makes them such a strong fit for Built for the Bog.
A Life Built Around Riding
For Jason, this world started early.
The two-stroke life was part of his childhood, riding with his father and two brothers on 11 acres just outside the Oklahoma panhandle. As life moved their family around the Midwest, his passion shifted into BMX during his early teen years, riding parks from Texas to Illinois. By high school, gearhead friends and off-road adventures had entered the picture — along with a few stories he jokes his parents probably still do not know about.
That early exposure to riding, machines, and adventure helped shape a lifelong passion for the off-road world. But what makes Jason and Cassi’s story meaningful is not just where it started — it is how they have taken that passion and turned it into something that serves the community around them.
What Makes Power Sports Expo Different
There are plenty of events in the off-road space, but Power Sports Expo has a different feel because it was built with a bigger view of the community in mind.
Jason and Cassi have intentionally created an experience that celebrates the builds, the people, and the diversity of the terrain we set out to conquer. Whether your heart is in the mud, on the rocks, out on the trail, or flying through the dunes, Power Sports Expo recognizes that all of it belongs.
And then they add their own signature spin: a little nightlife, some race fuel, and a full weekend atmosphere that keeps people engaged long after the engines cool down.
That blend of industry, entertainment, competition, and community is what makes Power Sports Expo unique. It is not just about showing up. It is about creating a space where memories are made, brands are discovered, and relationships are built.
Favorite Places to Ride
Ask true off-road people to name their favorite place to ride, and you usually do not get a simple answer. Jason put it best — it depends on the week and just how good the last ride was.
When it comes to trails and rocks, two favorites rise to the top: Southern Missouri Offroad Ranch (SMORR) and TexPlex at Fall Creek. For Jason, both offer the perfect combination of scenery and technical climbs, creating rides that are as beautiful as they are challenging.
For mud, he says he would have named Boggs and Boulders until recently, but River Run left a big impression. The deep-cut trails, off-camber sections, and even surprise rock on the backside of the mountain made it an unforgettable experience.
As for dunes, while there have not been as many dune rides over the last twenty years, Waynoka’s Little Sahara still stands out. At around 1,600 acres, it may not be the largest, but the sand trail system inside the park makes it an absolute blast.
It is clear Jason and Cassi appreciate every kind of terrain — and that wide appreciation is reflected in the kind of event they have built.
Advice for Riders
Jason’s advice for new riders is simple and smart: just go ride.
Learn your machine before pouring money into it. You may think you want to build for rocks and discover that mud is really your thing. Or you may start in the mud and realize the trails call your name. The point is to find your style first, then build around it.
For experienced riders, the advice hits a little deeper: remember to enjoy the journey.
It is easy to get caught up in the rush — the late nights in the shop, the busted knuckles, the long drives, the pressure to get ready for the next ride. But those are the moments that make this lifestyle what it is. The work, the anticipation, the people, the memories. When the engines fire up and the music starts playing, be present enough to take it all in.
That kind of perspective tells you a lot about the people behind Power Sports Expo. They are not just chasing the next event. They are fully aware of what makes this life special in the first place.
More Than an Event
One of the most powerful things Jason shared was this:
“There are two great days in a person’s life. The day we are born, and the day we discover why.”
And maybe that is really at the heart of this whole story.
Sometimes purpose is something you go looking for. Sometimes it finds you.
For Jason and Cassi, this community and this industry may not have needed them — but it clearly gave them something meaningful. Joy. Purpose. Belonging. And in return, they have poured that gratitude back into the off-road world by creating something that brings people together in a real way.
That kind of heart matters.
What They’re Looking Forward to This Season
When asked what they are most excited about this riding season, the answer was not tied to bigger builds or bigger crowds.
It was more parks, more laughs, and more memories.
Because at the end of the day, it is the late nights on the trails, the friendships built around the campfire, and the family you create through this lifestyle that matter most.
That answer says everything.
And because no story about Jason and Cassi would be complete without a little humor, there is also one very important question still hanging in the air: Will Jason let Cassi throw 63s on the Pro S?
According to the Magic 8-Ball, the outlook is unclear.
But the truth sounds a lot more certain: Cassi does not need — and definitely is not waiting on — permission. If she wants it, she gets it.
The only real question might be where exactly you ride 63s in Kansas.
Built for the Bog
Jason Phelps and Cassi Mayer are not just event owners. They are community builders. They understand that the off-road world is about more than horsepower and tire size. It is about connection, adventure, energy, and the people you meet along the way.
Through Power Sports Expo, they have created a place where all of those things come together — and that is exactly the kind of impact worth highlighting.
They are helping bring the powersports world together, one weekend, one ride, and one memory at a time.
That is what makes them Built for the Bog.
