Mud Mom: Abbey Motta on Family, Healing, and Making Memories That Last
In the off-road world, there are plenty of people who love the ride — but some people bring something even bigger to the community. Abbey Motta, better known as Mud Mom, is one of those people.
Based in Benson, North Carolina, Abbey has built a name for herself by sharing more than muddy rides and great views. Through her content, her family-focused approach, and her interactive event experiences, she reminds the off-road community that this lifestyle is about much more than machines and mud. It is about connection, healing, fun, and the memories made along the way.
More Than Mud: What Mud Mom Brings to the Off-Road Community
Abbey offers the off-road community a refreshing mix of family, fun, and real-life inspiration. Through her social channels and growing brand, she creates content that shows people of all ages can be part of the off-road lifestyle and enjoy it together.
She is also the host behind Tap the Map, a scavenger hunt experience that adds a creative and interactive twist to events. These hunts get riders exploring, engaging, and experiencing parks in a whole new way. It is the kind of idea that turns a ride weekend into something even more memorable.
Beyond that, Abbey travels to parks and events across the country, helping shine a light on what makes each destination special. For riders looking for their next adventure, her content opens the door to new places, new people, and new experiences.
But what truly sets her apart is the heart behind it all. Abbey openly shares her journey through life after cancer, using her story to encourage others to stop waiting and start living. Her message is simple and powerful: life is precious, and the best time to make memories is now.
How It All Started
Abbey’s off-road story started young with dirt bikes and a love for the outdoors, but things took off in a bigger way after meeting her husband, David. He introduced her to four wheelers, mud parks, and the full off-road lifestyle — and once she experienced her first mud park, she was hooked.
What started as fun quickly became a family lifestyle. Riding became something Abbey, David, and their son Cooper shared together, creating a foundation of adventure and connection.
Then life took a hard turn.
In 2019, Abbey was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. During treatment, riding became more than a hobby. It became an escape. It gave her a place to breathe, have fun, and feel like herself again during one of the hardest seasons of her life.
After treatment, Abbey and her family made a decision: they were going to live fully, make memories, and embrace every moment they could.
At the time, they were riding often through their park membership, and Abbey would record videos just for fun. Then David encouraged her to start posting them. She did — and people connected with what she was sharing.
From there, things grew naturally. What began as videos turned into something much bigger for the off-road community. Abbey and her family created the Golden Croc Hunt, a one-of-a-kind off-road scavenger hunt that quickly gained attention. That concept eventually evolved into Tap the Map, which Abbey now hosts as they travel to different parks bringing the experience to riders across the country.
What Makes Mud Mom Stand Out
Abbey’s uniqueness comes from her authenticity.
She is not trying to be anyone else, and she is not only showing the highlight reel. She shares the muddy fun, the family moments, and the real-life perspective that gives her content substance. Her brand is rooted in the idea that the off-road lifestyle is not only about how hard you ride — it is about the people beside you and the moments you take home.
Her focus on family-friendly content also sets her apart in a big way. Abbey shows that off-roading can be adventurous and exciting while still being welcoming, memory-filled, and community-centered. Whether she is out riding with David and Cooper or hosting a Tap the Map hunt, she is creating experiences that invite others in.
Favorite Place to Ride
When asked to name her favorite place to ride, Abbey admits it is a tough choice because every park has something special. But if she had to pick one right now, she says Boggs & Boulders.
What she loves most is the variety. It offers something for everyone — mud riding, trails, and plenty of terrain to explore. And for Abbey, the swimming holes are a standout feature, giving families and groups a chance to cool off, relax, and enjoy the park together.
Even though her family has only been a few times so far, it is a place they are always excited to return to. For Abbey, it captures the perfect balance of adventure and family fun.
Advice for Riders
Abbey shared a piece of advice that a lot of people in this community need to hear:
“One of the most common things I hear is, ‘I don’t have anyone to ride with.’ But honestly, the off-road community is one of the most welcoming communities you’ll ever be part of. If you just show up, you’ll meet people, make connections, and before you know it, you’ve built your own riding crew.”
That mindset reflects exactly who she is. Abbey wants people to stop holding themselves back and start stepping into the experiences waiting for them.
Looking Ahead
This riding season, Abbey is especially excited about traveling to new parks. Even after visiting so many places, there are still plenty she has not explored, and discovering each park’s terrain, people, and atmosphere is something she genuinely loves.
That excitement for what is next is part of what keeps her content and her mission so fresh. She is not stuck in one place. She is out there exploring, learning, connecting, and inviting others to do the same.
A Message Worth Remembering
Abbey’s story is a reminder that the off-road lifestyle is not reserved for the most experienced riders or the biggest builds. It is for anyone willing to show up, try something new, and make memories.
Her journey has been about more than riding. It has been about family, healing, resilience, and living fully after hardship. And that is what makes Mud Mom such a meaningful voice in the community.
As Abbey puts it:
“We’re just out here making memories that will last a lifetime.”
And honestly, that is what being Built for the Bog is all about.
